Registration is now open for Susan G. Koman 2011 Global Race for the Cure in Washington DC. The race will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2011.

If you register by Friday, April 15th, you receive a $5 "Early Bird" discount.

We also are looking for volunteers to assist with the Survivors Tent. Please stay tuned for more details.

What a great day today at FedEx Field. 250+ Zeta sisters stormed the tailgates, parking lots and entrance gates to make sure everyone at the Redskins' game had a pink ribbon. The effort to raise breast cancer awareness was a big success with 45,000 fans getting a ribbon, card and a reminder to THINK PINK.

We met some super Redskin's fans, visited with new ZTA sister Tanya Snyder and stood alongside cheerleaders and Skins staff to support the cause. The weather was great and the sisterhood FABULOUS!

Thanks to Katie for coordinating our chapter's involvement. Great idea to meet at Starbucks and ride together - caffeine and sisterhood made the early morning a lot of fun.

We are going all pink in October ladies! Not only is the LoCo ZTA blog decked out, we will be too.

On Sunday the 10th why don't you join us as we turn FedEx Field pink before the Redskins' game? Some of the Loudoun ladies will be meeting at 7:30 am by the Starbucks in Broadlands (near Bonefish) to caffinate and carpool if you would like a ride. We'll start handing out pink ribbons at 9:00 am alongside other alumnae and collegiates from around the DC metro area. FUN!

All Fall we will be collecting yogurt lids and are partculary interested in the pink Yoplait Save Lids to Save Lives. For every lid sent in by ZTA to the special ZTA only address, Yoplait makes a contribution to the ZTA Foundation. Collect your clean lids and bring them to any chapter event before the end of the year.

DC Race for the Cure - June 5th

It's that time of year again, so please mark your calendars for June 5th. There are several opportunities for Zetas, friends, and families to get involved with the race. If you cannot participate on Race Day, June 5, you can volunteer at a registration drive, help assemble race packets, or even sign up to Sleep in for the Cure.

If you are unavailable on June 5, there are other opportunities to help register runners in the DC-area. DC Zetas will be hosting a registration drive on May 8 (more details to come), or you can volunteer to help assemble information packets for registered runners.

Survivors Tent:

Be sure to indicate your Zeta Tau Alpha affiliation when you register so that you will be placed at the Survivors Tent with other ZTA volunteers.

Run/Walk:
- Join ZTA's Race team today. Register here (https://secure.info-komen.org/site/TRR/GlobalRaceForTheCure/GlobalRace?fr_id=1370&pg=tfind) and search for the team "Zeta Tau Alpha." Theta Chi (GMU) Chapter wins Big!

This week at GMU's Standards of Excellence Award ceremony our Theta Chi chapter won the most awards out of any Panhellenic Sorority on campus!

They also brought home individual awards for Best New Member, Best of the Best Award, and Best Advisor.

Drumroll please.....they also won the top chapter award of the night - The Standard of Excellence Award. We are so proud of you ladies!

This past Saturday more than 500 sisters from around VA assembled in Falls Church for Zeta Day 2010 - The Zeta Path to Your Success. Hosted by the fabulous sisters of the nearby Western Fairfax Alumnae Chapter it was a great day filled with sisterhood and fun.

Your Loudoun County Chapter brought home a few awards including recognition for a 10% or more membership increase and the District President Award for small chapter - that's a biggie! Our wonderful President Dawn James was Loudoun's Zeta Lady. Five White Violets joined us for the day making the celebration that much more special. Richmond's Kim Cave received her Certificate of Merit and the collegiate women of Theta Chi received Most Improved Collegiate chapter.

We had a great time and are so proud of what our officers and members have accomplished in 2009-2010! Stick around sisters, the best is yet to come!

Brian Tarallo is a process improvement, operational efficiency, and strategy consultant with federal and private-sector experience. He is also a U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional, specializing in environmentally-sustainable operations and education. He has consulted on over twenty LEED-certified commercial and residential projects, and has personally constructed thirty Energy Star homes. He has designed and instructed several courses and lectures focusing on sustainability, including Green in a Weekend, Lessons from LEED, Design Your Energy Efficient Home, Beyond Code, Living in a Desert, and Tipping Point. He has a background in formal project management, finance, and supply-chain management with an MBA from Arizona State University. He has served as a Business Process Improvement Manager for a federal agency, a Project Manager for a large-scale real estate development firm, and a Development Volunteer for the U.S. Peace Corps. Brian is currently serving as SENSA Solutions Director of Operations.

On December 4th at 7:00pm we will be meeting at Reston Town Center for an evening of ice skating! This is a family event so feel free to bring your significant other/children as well! The cost is $13 for 12 and over and $11 for under 12. The Reston Town Center will also have its annual tree lighting at 6:00 that evening!

It's that time of the year -pPink Yoplait lids are hitting grocery store shelves now for the highly successful Save Lids to Save Lives® program. For each pink lid mailed in by Zetas, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Komen and 5 cents to the ZTA Foundation.

Please bring your (clean!) Yoplait lids to any Loudoun ZTA event this Fall or if you prefer, email ztaloudoun at yahoo.com for an address you can mail them to locally.

Lids will be collected until December 30 and mailed to a special ZTA address - not the Yoplait address on the lids - so be sure to get them turned in.

Loudoun Links Takes Clydes by Storm!

Tonight's gathering at the Clyde's in Ashburn/Broadlands was a smashing success! Thanks to all the returning members and the many new faces who came out. We had a great time "linking up" and getting to know one another over yummy appetizers and cocktails. You know everyone is having fun when we chatted and laughed loud enough to just about clear the room of other patrons!

We have such a diverse group - students, teachers, commerical real estate pros, Washington insiders, domestic goddesses (Moms!), sales and marketing gurus and more. And we come from so many different places and collegiate chapters - Illinois, Maine, Virginia, Florida, New York.....Eta Xi, Theta Chi, Eta Phi....the list goes on. And ZTA Links us all together.

How many pink ribbon cards can our chapter be counted on for, to create before/for game day?

ZTA THINK PINK WITH THE REDSKINS EVENT

Date: Sunday, October 4, 2009 (all day event for 1pm home game)
Meet: Setup/Prep - Clyde’s at Mark Center, 6am

This is the same weekend that the NFL is celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness around the league. If all goes well, ZTA will be at 24 different events around the country! Last year ZTA won a National award for the 10th anniversary with the Redskins (www.zetataualpha.org/cms400min/Template5SF.aspx?id=1563) and this year ZTA will be honored at an ESPN luncheon prior to Monday night football on October 5 in MN! I hope that you can all be a part of our event -- we are hoping for it to be the most exciting game to date!

Fun Fundraisers

We are planning two fundraisers this year to benefit the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation.

Once again this fall we will be selling White House Ornaments. We'll have more info and flyers you can share with your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers at our Fall events.

In the spring we will host our Second Annual March Madness Basketball Bracket tournament. Recruit your guy friends too! This one will be a fast and furious sign up and all done online so it will be super easy to get in on the fun and compete to win half the money raised.

THINK PINK with Washington Redskins Date Set

On Sunday, October 4th Zeta sisters from around the DC, MD and VA area will gather to turn Redskin's FedEx Field Pink! Each year the hype gets bigger and we are joined by the Redskin Cheerleaders, players' wives, coaches' wives and the coaches in handing out and wearing pink ribbons to raise breast cancer awareness. Come join us at this great event.

Did you know that 11 years ago the very first THINK PINK event in the country was held right here with the Redskins? The best Zeta stuff really does begin in Virginia :-)

Collegiate Recruitment in VA - Submit Recomendations Online!

Fall recruitment is just a few weeks away for many of our collegiate chapters. This is such an important time for our chapters as they add new members and start the new school year with enthusiasm and renewed sisterhood. You can help make recruitment a success for our collegians by voluntarily submitting Membership Information Sheets for outstanding young women that you know.

We’re pleased to let you know that you can now submit an MIS online and it will automatically reach the Membership Advisor for the designated chapter. You can also print out a PDF or a fill-in Word document of the MIS and send it by mail if you like. The instructions for all those options are outlined in this document which appeared in the summer issue of Themis.

To access all the MIS options, just visit the “Recommend a Member” tab of Sisters Only on the ZTA Web site. You will need a username and password to open that page. That process, if you haven’t already completed it, is very simple. Just follow the online prompts.The “Recommend a Member” page also includes our policy on legacies, which you may want to review.

If you are uncertain when a particular campus holds recruitment, you can find that chapter on the Chapter Locator Map. The chapter profile that opens includes the recruitment start date.

The Loudoun Chapter EC got together this week to do some calendar planning for the coming year and boy will it be a fun one! We've got all sorts of fun things planned from networking and happy hours to cooking classes and ice skating. Of course we are selling White House ornaments and bringing back our March Madness Bracket pool fundraisers too. Is it September yet? I can hardly wait for the fun to start! Race For the Cure Survivor Program Volunteer Opportunity

Sisters from all over the Washington DC metro are are invited to help with the National RFTC Survivor program on race day - June 6th. Info follows - contact Bridget to get involved in this great opportunity!

4. Are you running/walking in addition to volunteering?
5. Can you work the entire 5 a.m.-2 p.m. shift? If not, when can you work?

We will work in the Survivor Tent checking in survivors, greeting survivors, distributing goodie bags and with food preparation and service as well as clean up.

The shift time is 5 a.m.-2 p.m. We need to commit to that time. Snacks will be provided and we will get breaks. Those wanting to run/walk are able to volunteer as well; we will just need additional folks working during the race.
